Nor Wayne Rooney, whose red face and perma-scowl bore witness to his own frustration at being just that little bit off when it mattered most. Or Thierry Henry, Frank Riberry, or Nicholas Anelka, who, if they’re smart, will stay far away from la belle pays for the next decade or so.
