Ball Hockey exclusive: the Best on being the Best 3

Canada’s George Gortsos, during his long international playing career, was for years one of the best ball hockey players on the planet – and he’s without doubt the most successful coach in world ball hockey history. With unmatched knowledge of the game’s skills and systems, personal passion & intensity – and an unmistakable gravel-in-a-blender voice – Coach G is the source when it comes to being the best. Currently, GG continues to advise Canada’s national ball hockey teams as High Performance Director for the Canadian Ball Hockey Association. He also gets in a weekly game in a Toronto rec ball hockey league at Withrow Park.

Best Player in the World caught up with the Coach after a recent rec-league outing. In this exclusive two-part interview, George waxes eloquent on making it to the top, great ball hockey players he’s known, his fave ice hockey stars (and movie stars!), and – yes – his “Czech friends.” Watch & enjoy.

Definitely ball hockey’s elite figure. Inducted into various halls of fame (ISBHF, CBHA, OBHA) yet still has the fire in his eyes. It was my privilege to be coached by George and play alongside him at the 2010 World Masters Championships. In the ball hockey world, Mr. Gortsos is indeed the man!

You betcha, David – well said. Gortsos has always had it, and still does. Always a competitor. And yet he sees the value in playing for the fun of it too, the way that most rec-league players approach their sport. Coach G is the total package.
