Milos Raonic has defeated quarterfinal opponent Ernests Gulbis and will meet Canadian Vasek Pospisil in a historic all-Canadian semifinal match at the Rogers Cup in Montreal.
Raonic needed three sets to put Latvia’s Gulbis away. Come tomorrow, he’ll doubtless be feeling the effects of today’s tough match in the afternoon heat – whereas Pospisil needed to play only three games (all of which he won) before his opponent, Nikolay Davydenko, retired due to ill health. Pospisil earned himself some much-needed rest and should be fresher heading into tomorrow’s semi.
Canadian tennis fans will be tuning in tomorrow for the semis and of course on Sunday, with one of the finalists now guaranteed to be a home-country favourite.
