Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard put in a fantastic 8.1 performance today to rank first among all players in United’s 2-1 Community Shield win over defending Premier League champions Leicester City. Lingard scored on a brilliant run in the 32nd minute to give United a 1-0 first-half lead. That was one of four dribbles for Lingard, making him the leader in that category. He also recorded two tackles before leaving the game through injury.
Jamie Vardy, whose 7.7 overall rating was second to Lingard’s performance, equalized for Leicester in the 52nd minute.
But it was United’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic who finished as the hero. While Zlatan did have a respectable 7.3 rating in this game, the most important number for him was his decisive goal in the 83rd minute. A right-flank cross from Antonio Valencia found him at the far post, he out-jumped Leicester centre-back Wes Morgan and used his timing, power, experience and accuracy to head the ball just beyond the out-stretched hands of Kasper Schmeichel, off the far post and into the net – making the score 2-1 to United.
Who scored? Zlatan, that’s who.
Who is Zlatan? I Am Zlatan.
