This morning I listened for the first time to Wilco’s stunning “Impossible Germany” track and I think my life may have changed.
My god what a song and what sublime guitar from Nels Cline. Here is the Barcelona version on Youtube that I listened to.
This musical conversion experience got me looking for more stuff on Cline and I found this very cool video where Nels gives us the goods on what it takes to be the best:
I like what Nels says about how he chooses his projects:
“It’s not any one thing…I think the number one thing is sound…I love sound…If I can play with people who have a sensibility about sound…whose music that they write or conceive is beautiful or fascinating…that’s a factor…”
And I love when Cline talks about his Jaguar. The man owns three Jaguars! Jaguar guitars that is : )
And you know – when he talks about this beautiful instrument – it seems to me he could be talking about his guitar in the same way a soccer player talks about his shoes, a golfer about his clubs, a hockey player about his stick, a blogger about his laptop (kidding)…
I love this kind of talk. You hear it all the time from the best players, from players who really care about what they’re doing, players who want to get better and better, players who understand that sometimes to be the best, you need the best tools…
