Cristiano Ronaldo recorded a record 7th La Liga hat-trick today in leading Real Madrid past Athletico in a derby that was closer than the 4-1 scoreline showed at the end.
Ronaldo scored first on a > trademark free-kick, then a trademark long-range missile and finally on a (not trademark but frequent) penalty-kick.
He rightfully asked for the game ball at the end – it was pretty much a CR7 show all night in Madrid.
Btw – while that 3-goal performance gave Cristiano a La Liga record with 7 hat-tricks – Lionel Messi actually leads this season’s hat-trick race – as recorded by our very own > Hat-trick Tracker – with nine (“count ‘em”) nine – hat-tricks during the 2011-2012 world soccer season.
Would love to see Cristiano take a run at that massive total.
The game of soccer just gets more and more amazing when Ronaldo and Messi go toe-to-toe.
