Phelps: Paul McCartney meets Carlos the Jackal
He’s probably the greatest swimmer in the history of the sport. He holds 39 world records, and has won eight medals in each of the past two Olympics – including eight golds in Beijing, in itself a record and an almost impossible feat.
And yet…Michael Phelps (shown here explaining why he was snapped using a bong) also has one of the worst moustache – goatee combos in sports. With every millimeter of body hair affecting a swimmer’s drag in the pool, the beaver perched on Phelps’ face would have meant the difference between the podium and the pub for him in Beijing.
Thankfully, with the London Games upcoming, we’re not likely to see Phelps anything other than clean-shaven as the season heats up next spring.
