Have you noticed that nobody is talking about Stevie G anymore. It was not long ago that the legendary Zinedine Zidane had called Gerrard the Best Player in the World.
But time and injuries have not been kind to Liverpool’s talisman.
So it was great to see him score three today in such a big, emotional match.
But that has always been Gerrard’s M-0: the man for the big match. You couldn’t count on all of your fingers and toes how many times he has raised Liverpool from the dead or delivered them to glory.
According to Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish, team captain Steven Gerrard is out of the team with a brand new injury.
”Steven has got an infection in his ankle,” Dalglish said. ‘He was in our minds for the game and it just flared up. We will be more accurate next week (in terms of making a diagnosis).
”It’s nothing to do with any injuries before. It’s an infection. I suppose it’s like having an abscess in your mouth.”
It looks certain that Gerrard will be out for Liverpool’s next Premier League game against Swansea next weekend.
