Sweet jesus, what a fearsome looking thing. If the HAL computer in 2001: A Space Odyssey could serve, it would look like the Ace Attack. The lack of any meaningful audio in this clip makes the whole thing just that little bit more surreal.
Still, those who have read Andre Agassi’s Open (see Best Player’s Holiday Gift Guide), with its memorable accounts of 7-year-old Andre being dragged out of school by his obsessive father so he – Andre – could spend the day returning balls spit out by the huge, hideous, reptilian serving machine the father had designed himself, well…those who remember that section in the book and also remember that adult Andre became the world’s best serve returner will see the value in something even as appalling-looking as the Ace Attack.
